Kill Team: First Impressions

Kill Team Setup

I played my first game of Kill Team last sunday. We played the Assassinate scenario with my Genestealers trying to take out some special Imperial Guardsman dressed up as a Techpriest. All in all it was a refreshing change of pace from standard Warhammer 40k, especially for someone (like myself) that plays a horde army like Tyranids.

I fielded a brood of ten of my special stealth genestealers. Okay, so it was not so much that they were especially sneaky, they were just primed black. For this particular scenario and table setup though, I am going to call them stealthy.

Genestealers sight their first kill

The genestealers started almost in the back corner of the board (from my perspective at least). They made a run/scuttle to the back a bunker in the center of the board. From there, they dove right into the first available squad of guardsmen and made quick and messy work of them.

Imperial Guard surround the Genestealers

After that, they chewed through squad after squad until they surrounded their objective. They could have made stew (probably very metallic stew) out of this poor fellow, but in a very un-tyranid like move, I chose to allocate the majority of their attacks to the guardmen that surrounded my genestealers after they surrounded the target. It took two turns to kill the target and I barely made a dent in the seventeen guardmen attacking the genestealers. They managed to finish my tyranids off the following turn.

I definitely look forward to playing Kill Team again and we are going to work very hard to find a role for it in the campaign system we are trying to put together.
